Mr. Handsome loves, loves, loves a good hamburger.
Travis’s intense love of good hamburgers has trickled over into my heart as well. So last week, after we had been apart for two whole days I decided to make him the best hamburger I could think of… this is my creation.
Warning: It is huge. Ginormous. It’s like putting a salad bar on top of your bacon cheeseburger. I mean, what’s not to love? Two people could probably split one. I definitely ate ALL of one myself.
The Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger
Step One: Fry the bacon.
Step two: Form hamburger patties, then season with salt, pepper, and several dashes Worcestershire sauce and put them on a hot griddle to fry. These patties are approximately 1/2 pound each. Tip when forming hamburger patties: Pack them as tightly as you can, and leave an indentation in the center. This will help prevent the hamburger swelling up when you cook it.
Step three: While the hamburgers are cooking (and you’re checking your bacon periodically to be sure it doesn’t burn!), chop up your vegetables and cheese: Romaine lettuce (1 leaf per sandwich), thinly sliced red onion, chopped fresh parsley, sliced avocado, sliced tomatoes (I used Roma because they were the prettiest the store had!), and sharp cheddar cheese.
Make sure you slice enough cheese for little moochers to snatch up.
Butter both halves of your Cheesy Onion Burger Buns and fry on the griddle until golden brown.
After you’ve flipped your burgers to brown the other side, and about 5 minutes before you expect them to be done (how’s that for specific?!), top with cheese and bacon. I did bacon and then cheese, but looking back, I would do the cheese first; it would melt better.
On one side of the grilled bun put a smear of mayonnaise and a smiley face of spicy mustard.
Lay your lettuce on the top side, and the parsley and red onions on the bottom side.
Put your bun on top of the red onions, top with tomato slices and avocado and close ‘er up!
Now, this burger is approximately 6-7 inches tall. You’re more than likely not going to be able to get your mouth around it. That’s half the beauty. 🙂
I served ours alongside homemade Sweet Potato Oven Fries with Maple Brown Sugar Dipping Sauce. Best meal I’ve had all week!
